What a fantastic suspense/thriller. The awesome Denzel tries to live an ordinary life, by locking away his old life. But a young girl, captured by a Russian mafia, is forced to do things she doesn't want to do. This strong, plot-driven movie will keep you on edge of your seat. Denzel gives the enemy an opportunity for them to do the right thing, but when they don't comply, this awakens Denzel's old demons that come unleashed. A good fight until the end. This is one of those you want to re-watch. Denzel Washington Plays The Equalizer a movie brought to you by the same director as Training Day. This tale introduces us to Mcall a retired kinda special ops or FBI whatever agency he was part of is never clear in the movie but he comes out of retirement to kick some Russian mafia gangster asses and does not stop until he gets to the head of the snake. It is a good Denzel movie but a tad too long and most of the movie is shot at night and it is too dark and many scenes you cannot see characters well.
The movie is very violent and is not for everyone although you do not see much blood you have to hear a lot of sound effects of bones breaking and people dying. There is a supporting cast but it's really all about Denzel the only other well-known actor is Bill Paulman and he plays an old friend and only has like 5 to 10 mins screen time but does nothing for the movie to go forward. Both my wife and eye were kinda annoyed at certain main gaps that the movie had but still managed to get through this. The Old Man Kicking Ass genre has exploded out of Hollywood in recent years. While the trope itself has been around for a long time-i.e., a scene in a movie in which a foolish fellow picks a fight with what appears to be a helpless older person and promptly gets his ass handed to him-the actual genre really took off with the advent of Pierre Morel's "Taken." As such, Liam Neeson, the star of that film and its sequels, is seen as the face of this film category.
